Columbus Explorer Sea Scouts Unit

Partnership with 4th Canvey Island Sea Scout

September 2018

Columbus Explorers has grown a lot over the last year we now have around 36 Explorers on the books. We have a few who have reached the age of 18 and are leaving over the next few weeks. A couple who have been with through all the sections but we are pleased to hear that they will be becoming leaders where they have been doing young leadering for many years.  A lot of the older explorers are young leaders in the other 3 sections, which is lovely to see.  We are hoping to sort out some young leader roles for the new explorers who have come up from scouts over the summer term.

Over the past year the Explorers have done the following:

  • PAW camp, which we had a very good turn out and put in 4 teams of Explorers. They all seemed to have lots of fun and did very well. The novice team came away with a trophy as well. Well Done.

  • The Explorers have continued to help Canvey Rotary Club with Santa’s Sleigh, and various car park duties.

  • The explorer leaders took part in the Raft Race again this year and were the overall winners, and money went to the whole of 4th Canvey, well done team. We are hoping to next year be allowed to put in an explorer team too.

  • Summer camp this year was at Walesby, which was a great camp with good weather for the whole week. Lost of visits out including Alton Towers, town visit, zoo and many Explorers did white water rafting for the first time and everyone loved it and did so well, as well as many falling in too.

Upcoming events include:

  • Winter camp in October
  • Spring camp
  • And next years summer camp, which will be abroad again
  • More information on all of these will be emailed soon.

We have an adult team of 10 at the moment, who all bring different aspects abilities and ideas to the group. I would like to thank all my leaders for all their hard work and help over the past year; they all have different roles in the group helping it to run smoothly and efficiently.
