Like all scout groups, 4th Canvey Island is run by volunteers and funded primarily by subs collected through each section. However, from time-to-time the group need funding for facilities, equipment or experiences that would be extremely hard to achieve if financed through subs alone.
How group funds are allocated and spent is the responsibility of the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is made up of: Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Group Scout Leader, Section Leaders and Committee Members. The committee works closely with the leaders to ensure the smooth running of the entire group and to assist the leaders in maximising facilities for the benefit of the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers.
The committee is also responsible for fundraising too. Along with other volunteers, committee members and/or leaders can be found organising curry nights, bingo, quizzes, fetes, Christmas bazaar and other fundraising events which raise money to support the group’s activities.
Additionally, the group has a presence on two of the UK’s leading online charity sites. Just Giving and the PayPal Giving Fund which are NOT to be used to pay for subs, camps etc!
All parents are welcome to join the committee or chip in with a fundraising idea. If you’d like to join, please speak to one of the leaders in the first instance who can put you in touch with the committee secretary.
